DES MOINES--April 17, 2008--Last week the Senate approved the $750,000.00 Funding to Planned Parenthood and also added $200,000 to fund groups that provide pregnancy and parenting services. Groups that would include Planned Parenthood.
The Senate defeated the Johnson Amendment that would have given the $750,000 to only Pregnancy Centers and Maternity Homes.
Today the House will Debate the Senate Bill that Passed Last Week, which is another opportunity for them to stop the out of control spending to Planned Parenthood! Call to ask your Representative to support the Windschitl Amendment! (See Below for Action)
Legislators who are supporting the new family planning funding pretend the money is not for Planned Parenthood. So let's be clear. It is.
For those legislators who play the game that it is not for Planned Parenthood, we have provided below Planned Parenthood's e-mail to their supporters attacking Iowa Right to Life.
Legislators need to be reminded that Iowa is the recipient of 5% of the Federal Family Planning Funds while it is only 1% of the population--AND we have one of the lowest teen pregnancy rates in the U.S.
Iowa is struggling to find the funds to pave its roads and is resorting to raising the registration fees for trucks to get more money, but yet it is going to increase the Family Planning Funds to over $20 Million Dollars! Iowa Legislators need to take care of its housekeeping to pay for repairing roads instead of dumping more and more money at a politically charged organization, that last year alone received over $5 Million just in Medicaid.

Anti-choice groups continue plotting to gut the Healthy Families line-item and redirect those funds to crisis pregnancy centers – centers that do nothing to solve the problem of unintended pregnancy, but lie to and intimidate pregnant women.
The Healthy Families line-item will be the first step towards providing 100,000 Iowa women who qualify for assistance with family planning services. Iowa Right to Life has jumped at the chance to attack Planned Parenthood, but thinks nothing of the health and well-being of these women.
Failing in the Senate, Iowa Right to Life now turns to the House, attempting to strip family planning funding by pushing poisonous amendments. Their approach has been to demonize Planned Parenthood and supporters of reproductive freedom.
It’s just another sad reminder that Iowa Right to Life has been spreading falsehoods and lies, and the opposition is eating it up!

Ask your representative to stop more funding to family planning, i.e. abortion groups, and ask them to support the Windschitl Amendment-SF2425that will make sure any funds INTENDED to go to pregnancy centers and maternity homes will actually go there. The Windschitl Amendment clarifies the funding will not go to any groups that do abortions.
Voting for the Windschitl Amendment is voting to preserve life and a vote against the amendment is a vote against life.

This is a reasonable amendment since Senators in last week's debate claimed the $200,000 they added was for the pregnancy centers and maternity homes. If they truly mean what they say, they should support the Windschitl Amendment, the clarification that it would not go to abortion groups. (emphasis added)
Furthermore, Iowa Right to Life has no financial interest in any of the funds we are lobbying for. The claim by Planned Parenthood that Iowa Right to Life would win if funding went to the pregnancy centers makes this more about two organizations rather then the women in crisis. We personally have nothing to gain, as Planned Parenthood does. They are lobbying to pad their own pockets.
Clearly to only fund the family planning groups and do nothing for the groups that help save children lives is a case of supporting the anti-life agenda over the pro-life agenda.
Voting for the Windschitl Amendment is voting to preserve life. A vote against the amendment is a vote against life.
