Legislative ACTION ALERT--Planned Parenthood Attacks Maternity Homes and Pregnancy Centers to Prevent Them from Receiving Funds--See the Planned Parenthood Alert Below

Legislative Alert
Release: Immediate

DES MOINES--April 16, 2008--Planned Parenthood has sent out an attack e-mail (see below), name calling and falsely accusing groups who help women and teens in crises pregnancies.  It is truly appalling to think that they would have such intolerance for groups who make it their business to serve and help women in need.

Planned Parenthood already receives millions of our tax dollars and they are boldly expecting more.  We are lobbying legislators to show them evidence of the increased funding over the years for family planning.   In fact,  Iowa is the recipient of 5% of the total Federal Family Planning funds, yet Iowa only makes up 1% of the U.S. population.  This explains why Iowa's budget includes over $19 MILLION for family planning this year.  Now the Governor, who has done fundraising for Planned Parenthood, has placed in the state budget a new state fund that would go to Planned Parenthood’s "Healthy Families Project," with Christie Vilsack as their director.

Before legislators vote to fund more money to Planned Parenthood, we hope they will take the time to see what Planned Parenthood teaches children on their teen website. This is a sample question on their website and the link to the answer:  My friend told me that you can get paralyzed from anal sex is this true?  http://www.teenwire.com/ask/2008/as-20080411p1656-anal.php

Planned Parenthood's Attack E-mail on Pregnancy Centers:
Attached Message
David, your action has never been more critical than today!
Anti-choice Senators plan on stripping the Healthy Families line-item in favor of “crisis pregnancy centers”  --- centers that intimidate, harass, and lie to young pregnant women.
This latest attack, at the urging of Iowa Right to Life would rob Iowa women of critical family planning assistance.
Will you take action today to help defeat this amendment?
Hell-bent on attacking anything they construe as a “Planned Parenthood” project, anti-choice legislators and the organizations behind them will do or say anything to fight this new funding!
Redirecting these funds will do NOTHING to solve the problem of unintended pregnancies, and will waste state tax dollars on a program that offers no solution.
Crisis pregnancy centers sound like they will provide help, but in fact these centers are run by anti-abortion zealots who typically provide false and misleading information designed to intimidate women into carrying their pregnancies to term. These centers fail to provide accurate, comprehensive medical information that women need to make informed decisions.   These centers are long on ideology and short on facts.
Iowa can do better. Take action today!

Please call your State Senator as soon as possible and tell them that you do not support the Governor’s NEW FAMILY PLANNING FUND, paid for by our state budget.  Ask them to support the Johnson Amendment for the Human Services Appropriations Budget.  These funds would instead go to pregnancy centers and maternity homes.

Express to your senator that Iowa should invest our tax dollars into preserving life and abstinence education.  We need a positive approach rather than funding the controversial abortion industry.

Be sure to leave your name and number for them to call you back.  This is VERY important.  They need to hear from you.
