Release: Immediate
DES MOINES--February 29, 2008--You may have received in the mail, heard a radio ad or even seen an ad on television from Planned Parenthood for their new project they call "Healthy Families." This is a carefully crafted project that they have researched well. Their mission is to get additional tax funding to expand their resources for sex education on a false premise.
"Healthy Families" stated purpose is to create a fund for family planning that would go to Planned Parenthood on the context of lowering the teen pregnancy rate in Iowa. They advertise that they want the money available to provide free contraception to women who can not afford it. Both reasons are false.
"Healthy Families" stated purpose is to create a fund for family planning that would go to Planned Parenthood on the context of lowering the teen pregnancy rate in Iowa. They advertise that they want the money available to provide free contraception to women who can not afford it. Both reasons are false.
The fact is, Iowa has one of the very lowest teen pregnancy rates, which means that Planned Parenthood is about to get funding to fix a problem that does not exist. (Download the PDF)
They are also claiming that Iowa women do not have access to free contraception. They should have to explain what they are doing with the 5 million dollars they received from Medicaid last year.
ACTION ALERT:
Please contact your state legislator to oppose tax funding for the "Healthy Family--Family Planning" project, which will fund Planned Parenthood for a problem that does not exist.
Remind them that the State of Iowa has already distributed to Planned Parenthood 5 million dollars in Medicaid last year, as well as other tax funding. Iowa should not expand its funding to help develop an abortion provider's business.
