Legislative Alert
Release: Immediate

DES MOINES--April 11, 2008--Planned Parenthood is working overtime to secure additional tax funding.  They have been saturating the state with their deceptive "Healthy Families" radio, T.V. and direct mail ads.  Now they are using automated calls to reach their supporters which connect them directly to the State Senate switchboard.  They are on a full-steam-ahead mission to get the additional $1,000,000.00 the Governor promised them to expand their business all over Iowa.

We spoke with Senator Brad Zaun of Polk County who said he fielded 20 calls yesterday, in which he explained to the Planned Parenthood supporters that he would not be supporting state funds directed to Planned Parenthood.  He also shared with us that one of their callers, in an effort to get his support, said that the money would help promote "Alternative Lifestyles."

In addition, Senator DavidJohnson of Sioux County and Representative Matt Whindschitl of Pottawattamie County are stepping up to the plate by proposing an amendment to redirect the $1,000,000 from the Governor’s wish list for Planned Parenthood to Iowa Pregnancy Centers and Maternity Homes that help women and teens in crisis pregnancies--a positive way to truly promote life and abstinence.  This funding is desperately needed for abstinence education around the state.

ACTION:
Please take a moment to call your State Senator as soon as possible and ask them to support the Johnson Amendment in the Senate Human Services Appropriations Budget.

Express to them that Iowa should invest our tax dollars into preserving life and abstinence education.  We need a positive approach rather than funding the controversial abortion industry.

Planned Parenthood's Healthy Families media blitz and political hardball has generated WHO radio talk show host Steve Deace to create one of his comical satire commercials outlining the absurdity of what taxpayers are forced to do.  Click here to listen to a podcast stream of his show: Go to "Did We Break the Law"   http://www.whoradio.com/cc-common/podcast/single_podcast.html?podcast=deace.xml

Other Ways Planned Parenthood Will Use Your Tax Dollars:
Next year Planned Parenthood is planning to propose another sex education bill to make comprehensive sex ed mandatory for all schools.  Keep in mind their method of education for children is the "Joe Camel" approach to Sex Ed.

Example:  See www.teenwire.com  As you look at their teen site, remember that the goal in teaching sex ed SHOULD BE to encourage kids to delay sexuality.  However, the Planned Parenthood teen site does the very opposite.  They encourage sexual activity and call it "sex play."  They also discourage virginity pledges.
