Oratory Contest Change in Registration Date

DES MOINES—April 3, 2008—The Registration Deadline for the IRLC Oratory Contest Has Been Moved to Friday, April 18, 2008.You do not need to have your speech written by the April 18 deadline. The registration allows IRLC to prepare for the number of participants.
 
1st Prize:           $200
2nd Prize:          $100
3rd Prize:           $50
 
1st Prize winner will also give winning speech at IRLC’s Spring Fling that evening (May 3) and advance to National Right to Life Oratory Contest in Washington D.C., July 3-5!
 
Who Can Enter: Juniors and Seniors in High School
When:     May 3, 2008
Where:   St. Theresa’s School, 5810 Carpenter Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa
Time:      9:00 AM Registration; Contest Begins at 9:30 AM

Pre-Registration by e-mail, mail or phone is required.  See below for details.
Objective: Contestants are to research, write and present an original pro-life speech on abortion, infanticide, euthanasia or stem cell research.  The speech should address one of these topics directly using other topics only as support. The speech is to be 5 - 7 minutes in length.  A contestant will be disqualified if the speech is timed to be under 4 minutes or over 8 minutes in length.
 
Winner Advances to NRLC Oratory Contest:
Iowa Right to Life will provide airline, hotel and NRLC Convention registration for the winner and a chaperone. In the event the winner is not able to go to the NRLC Oratory Contest, the runner-up will represent Iowa. First Prize at NRLC's national oratory competition in Washington D.C. is $1,000. Contest rules are below.
