Wall of Shame

Tuesday, May 20 2008
Iowa Right to Life has a special place for organizations and people who shamelessly promote the anti-life movement, contrary to all reason. We would like to make them known to all on the Wall of Shame.

St. Ambrose University
St. Ambrose University, a Catholic university in Davenport, Iowa, makes the Wall of Shame after its Board of Directors gave one of its most prestigious awards – an honorary doctorate – to an abortion activist, former Iowa state senator, Margaret (“Maggie”) Tinsman at its graduation ceremonies on May 11, 2008.

Tinsman, currently on Parenthood of Greater Iowa’s (PPGI) 2007 list of donors, once helped triple PPGI’s income from tax dollars by ushering in a Medicaid waiver into an appropriations bill. Sadly, Tinsman who was pro-life when first elected, changed her tune when pro-abortion Governor Tom Vilsack came into office. She voted “no” against pro-life legislation, such as the Unborn Victims Act (2004), the Human Cloning Ban (2002) and voted twice against the Women’s Right to Know / Informed Consent bill (2000 and 2001; and was absent from the 2002 vote on same bill.) Tinsman also sits on Warren Buffet’s “Iowa Initiative” to distribute birth control.

For a Catholic university to honor a person like Tinsman, who supports practices and organizations so contrary to Catholic teaching, makes no sense at all.  More information on the St. Ambrose / Maggie Tinsman controversy.

Weitz Construction
The same construction company that does construction projects for schools like Valley High School in West Des Moines, Clive Elementary, in Clive and Central College in Pella, made national headlines in 2007, when they built the largest abortion clinic in the United State for Planned Parenthood in Denver, Colorado.

Because of enormous clinic’s location in a black neighborhood, and Planned Parenthood’s legacy of targeting minorities, pro-life demonstrators in Denver, carried signs that said, “Weitz Killing Blacks.”  Fred Weitz, a great-grandson of the company’s founder and his wife Emily are both on Planned Parenthood of Iowa’s (PPGI) Board of Sponsors.

In supporting Planned Parenthood, Weitz is killing their future business. Who will fill the schools after Planned Parenthood kills off all the children?
